Indonesia continues to strengthen bilateral cooperation to boost the national economy. On the sidelines of the 2023 Hannover Messe event, Indonesia held a bilateral meeting with Germany, which was received by Chancellor Olaf Scholz. The meeting discussed joint investment and economic cooperation signed by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action of Germany with the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia.
Indonesia has again won the trust of being the Official Partner Country (OPC) in the world's largest annual industrial technology exhibition, Hannover Messe 2023. This exhibition was organized by Deutsche Messe AG (DMAG) in cooperation with many partner countries as OPC.
Continuing activities during a working visit in Germany, the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia Airlangga Hartarto inspected the location for Hannover Messe 2023 Exhibition and the preparation for the opening ceremony. During the visit, Coordinating Minister Airlangga was accompanied by Minister of Industry of the Republic of Indonesia Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita and his staff to ensure the smooth and successful participation of Indonesia as Official Partner Country at the Hannover Messe 2023.
The government consistently seeks to strengthen bilateral cooperation to support national economic growth, one of which is with Germany. Recorded in 2022, the total trade between Indonesia and Germany reached US$7.04 billion and the realization of German investment in Indonesia amounted to US$195.5 million. With this potential, the government continues to encourage downstream strategic policies to increase added value and build more optimal cooperation.
The government encourages increased investment and industrial development, especially the manufacturing or processing sector, as the main strategy to leverage national economic growth after the pandemic and amid uncertain global economic conditions. This is proven by the economic growth which reached 5.31% at the end of 2022, led to investor’s confidence to continue investing in Indonesia.
The strength of the national economy is the result of implementing a policy mix by the Government which cannot be separated from efforts to strengthen economic relations that are forged between Indonesia and other countries. For example, with the European Union, which is one of Indonesia's main markets in the world, the two parties often sit together to resolve various trade issues and push for Indonesia – European Union Comprehensive Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA) agreements.
