The Third G20 Sherpa Meeting Successfully Discussed the Substance of the Leaders' Declaration, Followed by Intercession Meetings
Yogyakarta, September 29th 2022
The implementation of the G20 Presidency Indonesia has achieved a lot of progress toward the G20 Leaders' Leaders' Summit in Bali, in mid-November 2022. Prioritizing togetherness and harmony, Indonesia's G20 Presidency is expected to be able to produce a common consensus that can be a concrete solution for various efforts to overcome world problems.
On 27-29 September 2022, the third G20 Sherpa Meeting was held in Yogyakarta. The meeting took place reflecting the spirit of togetherness in achieving the priority agendas of the 2022 G20 Presidency of Indonesia, in order to recover stronger together. In addition, this meeting was also to discuss the Leaders' Declaration draft which will be adopted by Heads of State/Head of Government at the G20 Summit in November 2022 in Bali.
"All Sherpa Delegations contributed to reaching a common consensus in the Leaders' Declaration, all of them looking for solutions to some of the global issues that are happening now, and this situation that we must continue to guard," said Deputy for Coordination of International Economic Cooperation Edi Prio Pambudi as Co-Sherpa of Indonesian G20, in Media Briefing Day 2, Wednesday (28/09).
The Sherpa Delegates have covered most of the contents of the Leaders' Declaration and attempted to make the entire paragraph concise and goal-oriented. "Until today, there are still dynamics that need to be discussed, but we will continue to strive for good and smooth communication," said Co-Sherpa Edi Pambudi.
In the midst of the current geopolitical challenges, the third G20 Sherpa Meeting continues to strive so that the issues discussed in the Sherpa Track can be agreed upon and produce strong proposed solutions and recommendations to solve various world problems.
"Most of the substances have been agreed upon by the G20 Sherpas, and later at the Sous Sherpa level, more technical discussions will continue to agree on concrete deliverables which are expected to be of real benefit to the whole world," explained Co-Sherpa Edi Pambudi.
To continue the discussion at the technical level and in more detail on the substance of this Leaders Declaration, virtual inter-session meetings will be held, which will be held three times during October 2022, before being finalized at the fourth G20 Sherpa Meeting in Bali.
During the 3rd Sherpa event in Yogyakarta, various activities were carried out to introduce various Indonesian cultures, such as visits to the Yogyakarta Palace and Prambanan Temple. This is also part of the strategy so that this meeting can build a conducive atmosphere so that the 2022 G20 Indonesia Presidency can reach a mutual agreement.
“According to Indonesian culture, we make the Delegates feel comfortable and enjoy the diversity of Indonesian culture. We package the welcoming reception, gala dinner, and site visit in particular, not only to promote national culture, but we also to convey the philosophy of how Indonesia manages diversity, and tolerance, so that differences can be found in a middle way and solutions," said Co-Sherpa Edi Pambudi.
Meanwhile, the Secretary of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs Susiwijono Moegiarso who is also the Chair of the Joint Secretariat of the Sherpa Track and Finance Track of the 2022 G20 Presidency, in the media briefing added that the Indonesian G20 Presidency will continue to maintain the integrity and cohesiveness of all member countries, so that this Sherpa Meeting is expected to agree on the Leaders' Declaration draft which will be submitted and adopted at the G20 Summit in November 2022 in Bali.
“The discussion situation is quite dynamic, but it still puts forward the spirit to jointly solve various world issues and problems. The spirit of togetherness and maintaining the cohesiveness of the G20, all countries are here to find joint solutions and make recommendations to overcome global issues," concluded the Secretary of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs Susiwijono.
