Trusted to be the Official Partner Country, Indonesia will optimize the Hannover Messe 2023 eeent
Jakarta, April 15th, 2023
The government encourages increased investment and industrial development, especially the manufacturing or processing sector, as the main strategy to leverage national economic growth after the pandemic and amid uncertain global economic conditions. This is proven by the economic growth which reached 5.31% at the end of 2022, led to investor’s confidence to continue investing in Indonesia.
The trust from the international community in Indonesia's economic strength is also reflected in Indonesia's election as the G20 Presidency in 2022 and ASEAN Chair in 2023. In addition, this year Indonesia is again entrusted with becoming the Hannover Messe Official Partner Country (OPC) for the third time, after the first in 1995, the second in 2021 virtually because it was still a pandemic, and in 2023 it will only be fully implemented physically.
"Currently, Indonesia's position in various international forums is very good, including at the 2023 Hannover Messe, that our trust and credibility is very high since the G20 was held before, which resulted in the Leaders' Declaration. Even in 2020, 2021, and 2023, we are still entrusted with being the Official Country Partner. It's not easy. Only big countries, even in our new ASEAN, so this becomes a real measure of Indonesia’s positioning in the eyes of the international community," explained Secretary of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs Susiwijono Moegiarso, in the Indonesia Forward program which discussed "Indonesia as Official Partner Country Hannover Messe 2023", which was broadcast by CNN Indonesia on Friday (14/04).
Hannover Messe is the largest annual industrial technology exhibition in the world, organized by Deutsche Messe AG (DMAG), by collaborating with partner countries as the Official Partner Country. Hannover Messe 2023 will start from April 17 to April 21 2023, and will be attended by more than 90 participating countries, and will be visited by many business people from around the world.
"Our dominant GDP structure is the processing/manufacturing industry with its various sectors, for example the largest are food and beverage, electronics, automotive, and so on. So, for Hannover Messe 2023 event, the hope is not just a direct impact or commitment deals, but also the investment plan. There, we will make it a branding showcase of Indonesia's industrial technology advances, which in turn will encourage investment. When it comes to designing future economic policies, especially in the context of utilizing the industrial sector to get out of middle-income trap, and can be high income country, the share of industrial sector must be above 25%. Yesterday, we made a simulation, and it is targeted that in 2045 the figure could be 25% -28%," said Sesmenko Susiwijono.
At the 2023 Hannover Messe will be held Business Summit, followed by various business deals involving Government to Government (G to G), Business to Business (B to B), and also Government to Business (G to B). There are several agreements to be signed, namely two G to G, consisting of the RI-Germany JDoI of the Joint Economic Committee (Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs), as well as the JDoI on Cooperation in the Digitalization (Ministry of Communications and Information Technology); then B to B, consisting of 18 agreements and MoUs; as well as three G to B namely Machine Grants (PIDI, Ministry of Industry), Waste Management (Mayor of Pekanbaru), and Waste Management (Governor of West Nusa Tenggara).
Sesmenko Susiwijono explained, The 2023 Hannover Messe event will be optimized to boost the industry from the demand side, among others by opening up more access to export markets for Indonesian products, as well as from the supply side, namely regarding productivity and mastery of new technologies. This is because one of the things that helped national economic growth during the pandemic was the high value of exports.
"Especially in the industrial sector itself in the short term, many policies will take effect starting this year, such as the down-streaming of the mineral and coal sector apart from nickel products. As of June 2023, it will also apply to bauxite and others which will be prohibited from being exported in raw form. There must be downstream that provides added value in Indonesia so that we are sure that the role of the industrial sector will be even higher. Maybe the keywords are, Hannover Messe 2023 must be successful, the industry revives, the economy grows, and Indonesia advances," concluded Sesmenko Susiwijono.
Also attending as a guest speakers were the Director General of Resilience, Regional, and International Industrial Access of the Ministry of Industry Eko S.A. Cahyanto, and Executive Vice President of PT Akebono Brake Astra Indonesia Daniel Suryananta, also moderated by Frida Lidwina. (rep/dlt/map/fsr)
