Supporting Investment Development in Batam, Coordinating Minister Airlangga
Inaugurates Deputy Head of Board of BP Batam Business Sector
Jakarta, April 13th, 2022
In order to be able to carry out their duties and functions properly in developing the Batam Free Trade and Free Port Area (KPBPB), including in supporting the development of the Nongsa SEZ and the Batam Aero Teknik SEZ, the completeness of the BP Batam management is an important thing to fulfill.
Therefore, the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto inaugurated Wan Darussalam as a Deputy Head of Board of BP Batam Business Sector to continue his term of office for the 2019-2024 period at the office of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs, Jakarta, Wednesday (13/04).
Wan Darussalam is an official who previously had a career of approximately 22 years in the Batam City Government with his last position as Head of the Regional Planning Agency. By occupying this new position, it supposed to be able to make a significant contribution to BP Batam and will strengthen the coordination of Batam Island development with the Batam City Government.
In the agenda, Coordinating Minister Airlangga reminded all BP Batam leaders that even though BP Batam is a Public Service Agency that manages income as Non-Tax State Revenue (PNBP) to finance its activities, BP Batam has to be a facilitator and pull factor for investment development on Batam Island.
"BP Batam has to improve services and investment certainty on Batam Island, especially during this dynamic global condition," said Coordinating Minister Airlangga.
BP Batam has to be able to utilize new opportunities while maintaining existing opportunities. For this reason, Coordinating Minister Airlangga requested BP Batam to accelerate the completion of investment interests, including for the development of new and renewable energy through the development of floating Solar Power Plants (PLTS), data centers, and culture-based tourism.
In addition, BP Batam also needs to accelerate the development of strategic infrastructure, including Hang Nadim Airport and Batu Ampar Port. The development of this infrastructure is very important to maintain the competitiveness of Batam Island in attracting investment and reducing logistics costs which are more expensive and less competitive than Singapore.
Based on Government Regulation Number 41 of 2021 regarding the Implementation of KPBPB that regulates BP Batam which was established before the enactment of Government Regulation Number 41 continues to carry out its duties and authorities in accordance with the provisions of the legislation, the inauguration is important to do so that BP Batam can immediately implement various strategic policies to increase investment and provide employment opportunities for the society.
BP Batam also needs to immediately adjust its future plans with the Master Plan for the Development of KPBPB Batam, Bintan, and Karimun which is currently being finalized by the Draft Presidential Regulation.
With the inauguration of BP Batam's leaders, Coordinating Minister Airlangga asked BP Batam to immediately run fast to recover economic activity in Batam and realize various plans or new investment interests that have been proposed by investors.
"Once again, I congratulate Wan Darussalam as a Deputy Head of Board of BP Batam Business Sector, I hope you can give the best dedication and service to BP Batam," concluded Coordinating Minister Airlangga.
Also attending the inauguration were Echelon I of the Coordinating Ministry for the Economy Affairs, Heads, Deputy Heads, and Members of BP Batam, and members of the BP Batam Supervisory Board. (map/dft/iqb/fsr)
