Winning the 2023 BAZNAS Award Again, Coordinating Minister Airlangga Increasingly Affirms Commitment to Supporting Zakat for People's Welfare

Jakarta, March 21st, 2023

National economic recovery efforts continue to receive support from various parties, including zakat, which is one of the sharia social financial instruments. Zakat empowerment also gets encouragement from the Government through the use of digital financial services and formal financial accounts. Presidential Regulation Number 114 of 2022 concerning the National Strategy for Financial Inclusion (SNKI) has also mandated the establishment of a Zakat Collection Unit (UPZ).

Various support provided by the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs through its role in the National Council for Financial Inclusion (DNKI) as well as active synergy with the National Amil Zakat Agency (BAZNAS) and various Ministries/Institutions in encouraging an increase in the inclusive financial index again received appreciation in the 2023 BAZNAS Award held at Puri Agung Hotel Sahid Jakarta, Tuesday (21/03).

The Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto as the Daily Chair of the DNKI was again selected to receive the 2023 BAZNAS Award for the category of Minister of Supporting Zakat for People‘s Welfare. The award was handed over directly by the Indonesian Vice President K.H. Ma'ruf Amin to Coordinating Minister Airlangga represented by Expert Staff for Connectivity, Service Development, and Natural Resources Dida Gardera.

The award was given by taking into account the support that was always given by the Coordinating Minister Airlangga in coordinating the management of zakat, which is a form of expanding the implementation of Islamic finance.

In addition, the Coordinating Minister Airlangga also continues to emphasize the expansion and ease of access to formal financial services through digital financial services for all levels of society.

The awarding of the 2023 BAZNAS Award with the theme "Blessings of Zakat: Thank You Muzaki, Thank You Mustahik" is an annual activity organized by BAZNAS to appreciate the performance of zakat management organizations and stakeholders who also support and encourage the revival of zakat in Indonesia.

On this occasion, Indonesian Vice President K.H. Ma'ruf Amin symbolically also provided assistance to earthquake victims in Turkiye and Syria.

Also attending the occasion was the Chairperson of BAZNAS RI, the Chairperson of the Indonesian Ulema Council as well as Governors, Mayors, and Regents from several regions, as well as representatives from various institutions and organizations. (sahli/dlt/map/fsr)
